Pride and Prejudice

The seniors are watching the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen's most well-known and well-loved book, Pride and Prejudice.

Oh...there are so many things to learn from my *possibly* favorite book of all time.

1. Don't base your entire opinion of a person on your first impression.
2. EVERYONE has an embarrassing family member.
3. Love must be shown if it is to be returned.
4. Holding out for what you believe in is admirable.
5. Shyness can easily be mistaken for conceit.

Some favorite quotes from the movie:

Elizabeth: "I could more easily forgive his vanity had he not wounded mine."

Mr. Bennet [to Mrs. Bennet]: "I have the utmost respect for your nerves. They've been my constant companion these twenty years."

Caroline Bingley [at the ball]: "I can't help thinking that at some point someone is going to produce a piglet and we'll all have to chase it."

Mr. Bennet: "Well, if Jane does die, it will be a comfort to know she was in pursuit of Mr. Bingley."

Charlotte: "We are all fools in love."

Mr. Bennet: "Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins... And I will never see you again if you do."

Charlotte: "Not all of us can afford to be romantic, Lizzie."

Elizabeth: "From the first moment I met you, your arrogance and conceit, your selfish disdain for the feelings of others made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry."

Mr. Darcy: "You must know... surely, you must know it was all for you. . . . you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on."

American Literature Field Trip

On Friday, December 14, the American Literature class attended a series of 5 plays (dramatized from famous short stories such as Mark Twain's The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calveras County) at the Maryland Theater in Hagerstown. It was a great excursion!
